CAT (Cable Avoidance Tools)
This course is designed to train operatives in the use of the CAT (Cable Avoidance Tool) and Genny (Signal Generator).
You will learn how to correctly operate the Cable Avoidance Tool (CVAT) and the Signal Generator (Genny). The knowledge gained will allow you to avoid dangerous underground services in line with HSG 47 safely.
This will cover the different types of buried services that exist, current legislation and best practice concerning detecting buried services, the safety implications of not using a locator and associated ancillary equipment, use of local utility plans, observation of evidence in the street etc.
The aim of this course is to:
- Introduce you the various types of buried services which may be encountered during the course of your work
- Demonstrate the steps which can be taken to help protect you and your colleagues from accidental contact with these services you.
- Simple ways to locate street lighting cables
– Location of bends
– Location of junctions
– Identification of utilities
– Service connections
– Locating through concrete reinforcing
– Depth measurement, direction finding and nulling out
– Using Sondes for non metallic pipes and practical work
– Hands on locating using receiver; transmitter and accessories
